Monitor and support data conversion to new ICT system

Version 1.0
Issue Date: May 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency ICTPRG511 - Monitor and support data conversion to new ICT system
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to monitor and support data conversion to a new information and communications technology (ICT) system. It applies to individuals involved in the development process, who are required to convert data to work on new systems. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the programming and software development industry, and include access to the:

conversion specifications

data conversion plan

documentation guidelines

sample data to be converted

data conversion tools.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Monitor data conversion
  • Obtain the conversion supporting documentation, and apply it to the conversion process
  • Protect production data, by taking action to ensure backup before the conversion
  • Determine the requirements of the client, and the impact on the business operation
  • Identify and confirm the software, hardware or environmental prerequisites in the conversion plan
  • Validate data accuracy and integrity, according to conversion specifications
  • Identify data rejected by conversion tools, and carry out the actions detailed in the conversion plan
  • Document the data rejection or errant behaviour of the conversion process

Element: Support conversion
  • Verify the results
  • Present results to the appropriate person and obtain sign-off
  • Maintain and document backup copies of the conversion files, according to requirements
  • Develop clear and coherent technical documentation

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1. Monitor data conversion

1.1 Obtain the conversion supporting documentation, and apply it to the conversion process

1.2 Protect production data, by taking action to ensure backup before the conversion

1.3 Determine the requirements of the client, and the impact on the business operation

1.4 Identify and confirm the software, hardware or environmental prerequisites in the conversion plan

1.5 Validate data accuracy and integrity, according to conversion specifications

1.6 Identify data rejected by conversion tools, and carry out the actions detailed in the conversion plan

1.7 Document the data rejection or errant behaviour of the conversion process

2. Support conversion

2.1 Verify the results

2.2 Present results to the appropriate person and obtain sign-off

2.3 Maintain and document backup copies of the conversion files, according to requirements

2.4 Develop clear and coherent technical documentation

Evidence of the ability to:

obtain and apply the conversion supporting documentation

ensure backup before conversion

determine client requirements, and the impact on the business operation

identify and confirm the software, hardware or environmental prerequisites in the plan

validate data accuracy and integrity, according to the specifications

identify the data rejected by the conversion tools, and carry out actions specified in the plan

document any data rejection or errant behaviour of the process

verify the results, presenting them to the appropriate person and obtaining sign-off

maintain and document backup copies of the conversion files, according to requirements

develop clear and coherent technical documentation.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe current data modelling methodologies

explain current industry data conversion tools

describe current industry-accepted hardware and software products, including their general features and capabilities

explain data conversion from legacy systems.

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

ELEMENT

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

2.1 Verify the results

2.2 Present results to the appropriate person and obtain sign-off

2.3 Maintain and document backup copies of the conversion files, according to requirements

2.4 Develop clear and coherent technical documentation

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
